Dinner: Shabu-Shabu

Shabu-Shabu: A Japanese variant of hot pot. The name is derived from the "swish-swish" sound of cooking the meat in the pot (source: Wikipedia).

My family and I had dinner at a Shabu-Shabu place last week. Everything was good, except for the dipping sauces and the limited amount of meat. They had Ponzu and some peanut sauce as the dipping sauces. We're not really a big fan of both. Back in Manila, we always ate at this place where they served a dipping sauce with some sort of base (still trying to figure out what it is), satay paste, chopped chili, lots of garlic, green onions and a raw egg. That's what we've been craving for, since we haven't had it since I last went to Manila. Therefore, we decided to do our own Shabu-Shabu, in the comfort of our own home (and with the dipping sauce we like!).

The setup (Downside: a lot of dishes to be washed)

Chili, Green Onions and Garlic.

Our ultimate dipping sauce. My mouth is watering just looking at this...

Hot pot necessities. To make the broth taste... Tastier.

Tofu, Cuttle fish balls, noodles and mushrooms.

Beef - lots of it. Had sides of seaweed and pickled spicy cucumbers just cause they're my favorite.

We were really happy with how everything turned out. I felt like I was home again (cheesy, I know). Shabu-Shabu is one of my favorite types of food to eat--especially when I'm really hungry, and when it's cold outside. It sure keeps my tummy warm :) We're hosting a Shabu-Shabu dinner soon, I'm excited!
